I just lost my mother within the last 24 hours of ALS....SHe was diagnosed just 6 months ago and i saw firsthand day in and day out what this disease can do to the patient, their family, etc.. She is the one who actually gave me your website prior to her passing. I simply want to say thanks !!! Thanks for your fighting spirit, your drive, your awareness, and the money your foundation is raising to one day find a cure for this dreadful disease. Although she did not have a lot of time to fight back, i will fight for her. God Bless all patients with ALS, all those who have lost their life, and all the dr's and support staff who fight the fight also.

Dear Augie: I recently met your mother-in law and father-in-lawon a cruise to Vietnam. I related the story to them that I was the Excutive Director of the Les Turner ALS Foundation in Chicago back in 1978-80. Les was a friend of mine and I agreed to help him establish the Les Turner ALS Mammoth Music Mart with Dick Clark as our Honorary chairman. This event ran for 25 years and helped the foundation establish several clinics who continue to do research to this day.

You have done a fabulous job bringing to light the plight of the numerous ALS patients and bringing ALS to the forefront for so many people.

I look forward to meeting you at the Golf Tournament on May 17th.

Your work is an inspiration to so many other victims of ALS.

Dear Augie,
Twenty-nine years ago my mother died of ALS at the young age of 30. She left behind a devoted husband, and four children under the age of 12 years old. I was the twelve year old, and despite my age at the time, I was forced to become wiser than my years in order to help my mom. Research and clinical trials hadn't provided all of the knowledge and experience about the disease as it has today, and we were simply told that Mom was a "rare" case and that her disease would eventually kill her in three years or less. And it was just two months beyond the 3rd anniversary of her diagnosis that we laid her to rest and thanked God that she was finally at peace and no longer in the pain - both physically and emotionally.

I am now 41 and not a day goes by that I don't think of my mother and pray that there is a cure soon for ALS so that other families and children will never have to witness what I did in my childhood. My mother died when I was 12, but she has raised me in so many ways because of her spirit and determination to fight that dreaded disease. I want to tell you how very sorry I am for your diagnosis, and I pray for you and your family for the sacrifices you have made because of ALS. However, I also want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your committment to educate the world about this debilitating disease and to encourage people to donate and bring awareness to the disease so that a cure can be found. You are a hero to many, including me.

God be with you and your family. I am rooting for you!!
Much love and prayer,
Melanie

Mr. Augie Nieto,

I just want to express what an honor was for me to assist to the Zumbathon for Augie's Quest on Feb 11, 2011 in Pembroke Pines.
It was very important and sentimental for me to assist to this wonderful cause because I've lost my mom on May 19th, 2000 from ALS.
It is a terrible illness and I am glad to see how well you are doing and that you have done all this to find a cure to this horrible disease!
I wish you and your family nothing more than the best and many, many blessings!!!!
And please continue to do more of these wonderful, exciting and fun Zumbathons to spread the word and teach the world about ALS!
I also want to take the opportunity to thank Ali the Zumba teacher for putting all this together, she did a wonderful job!!!

Hello Augie,

I listened the last album of Five for Fighting. And there was a song about a man called Augie Nieto. After many hours in search engines and more and more websites, now i know your story too. Your are lightning star and a hope for all people. Here, in germany, i support handicapped Childrens in my hometown. In my work as a photographer i see many things thru my lens, but your story touched my very much. Every time when i listen to this song, you are in my mind. Hope one day ill meet you. Don`t give up and fight with the same power for a longe time. God bless you and your family Mr. Augie Nieto. You are a hero who is needed in this world.
