2014 Augie’s Quest ALS Courage Award Recipient
José Cofiño was a motivational speaker and writer who lived with ALS. He drove awareness, raised research funds and helped others overcome adversity.
As a seasoned franchising executive and successful entrepreneur and business leader, José turned to consulting and investing in emerging companies. He specialized in helping entrepreneurs grow their businesses by developing brands, processes and systems that are scalable, consistent with their concept’s core identity. A particular area of focus was franchising, where his clients included H&R Block and KFC.
José served as President and COO of ADIR Restaurants Corp., Vice President of the Disneyland Resort, President of PepsiCo Restaurants International in Brazil, and also held leadership positions at Holiday Corporation in the Harrah’s and Holiday Inn brands.
José was born in Cuba, raised in Mexico City, and immigrated to the United States in 1968. He earned a BS degree in International Economics from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and an MBA from Stanford University.
He lost his courageous battle with ALS in 2017.
